Style Description

Alejandro Arrechea Fong’s artwork initiates a dynamic dialogue between architectural precision, complex cultural fusions, and structural storytelling. Drawing from a rich tapestry of African, Asian, and Spanish ancestry, his multidisciplinary practice seamlessly layers printmaking, silkscreen, and intricate mixed-media collage. In his definitive Mejunje lineage, fluid figurative silhouettes clash with rigid geometric and organic grids, creating dense graphic allegories that mirror the friction of human memory, identity, and shared social environments. Extending his spatial vision beyond the canvas, Fong channels these sensibilities into high-end digital media, scenic production, and experimental design—proving that the boundaries of space are as fluid as history itself.

Biography & Artistic Evolution
  • Academic Foundations: Born in Cuba on October 16, 1967. He initiated his structured visual development through traditional foundations at the San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy before entering the specialized Higher Institute of Arts (Instituto Superior de Arte – ISA) in Havana. He completed a rigorous studio curriculum, graduating in 1991 with a university degree in Fine Arts and Art History.
  • The Madrid Period & Production Design: Relocating to Madrid, Spain, his professional practice expanded into commercial entertainment, set architecture, and television art direction. Between 2006 and 2012, he underwent specialized training in digital image manipulation, AutoCAD drafting, and lighting design. This multi-disciplinary foundation enabled him to serve extensively as a production designer, layout consultant, and art director for prominent television broadcasts and theatrical staging across Western Europe.
  • Miami Curation & Translocation: Later establishing an active base in Miami, Florida, he bridged his double footprint as an independent gallery graphic printer and media designer, navigating cross-border contemporary Fine Arts spaces and corporate media networks.
  • Current Status: He operates a highly active dual-track practice as a professional fine artist and scenic art consultant from his production base in South Florida. From this location, he releases complex print portfolios to global secondary markets while maintaining major contracts in commercial studio set engineering.

Notable Artwork Series & Motifs
  • Mejunje Project: His most definitive and commercially recorded series of silkscreens and hand-assembled paper collages, explicitly cataloging works such as Mejunje I, Mejunje II, and Mejunje IV. The title—referencing a traditional Cuban term for a complex mixture, blend, or potion—manifests visually through overlapping ethnic symbols, native botanicals, and rigid structural shapes.
  • La Jet Series: A structural body of fine figurative print statements capturing psychological states, emotional gravity, and identity dynamics through deep, high-contrast values.
  • Scenic & Architectural Blueprints: Standalone digital configurations and master drafted art renderings stemming from his continuous production work on international theatrical sets, reality television models, and zarzuela plays.
