Circular Reflections

A Cuban Contemporary Art Documentation Project

HOME

Circular Reflections is a decade-long curatorial project documenting contemporary Cuban art through the geometry of the infinite. Capturing a vast spectrum of creative expression—from rich folkloric traditions to cutting-edge conceptual art—the initiative rejects conventional rectangular formats. Instead, it challenges global Cuban masters to channel their distinct styles within a strict 21-inch circular plane. The results are presented at curated traveling exhibitions at museums and venues that bring art closer to the people.

The round surface of the artwork mimics the contour of the human eye, shifting the viewer from a passive observer into an active participant navigating a deeply psychological lens. Rather than dictating interpretation, short written commentaries—reflections—act as creative catalysts to spark the personal imagination of the viewer.

The project operates as an expanding, living archive that preserves collective cultural memory. It seamlessly bridges generational divides, juxtaposing iconic figures of the 1980s avant-garde with the voices of more recent accomplished artists. Maintaining an uncompromising standard, the project exclusively features selected established masters, honoring both academic rigor and autodidactic brilliance. You can explore these comprehensive histories through the individual artist dossiers featured throughout this website.
