Statement
Paciel’s canvases pulse like living environments, where gestural strokes of pure pigment operate as an emotional language rather than a depiction of a physical place. His surfaces are dense and heavily worked, built up through layers of color that mimic wild growth, sudden bursts, and natural decay. By abandoning hard edges and recognizable structures, the work maps inner thought and celebrates freedom and psychological endurance.
Bio
Academic Foundations: Born in Havana, Cuba in 1952. He completed architecture and higher design studies at CUJAE in Havana, graduating in 1977. His training in spatial draftsmanship and structural scale informs the complex internal layouts and organic depth of his expressionist canvases.
Institutional Service: He served as Museographer Architect for the National Office of Cultural Heritage and Professor of Museography at Cuba’s National Institute of Museology. He won First Prize at the Concurso Nacional de Arquitectura for the Hotel Topes de Collantes design in 1985 and contributed to museum and heritage projects.
Exile, Translocation & Relocations: He permanently relocated to Europe in 1991 and established his long-term creative base in Bilbao, Spain, working as an interior architect, visual artist, and writer. Current Status: He lives and works full-time from his Bilbao studio, bridging European art spaces with South Florida’s diaspora institutions.
